FRANCE, PORTUGAL, ENGLAND AND BELGIUM ARE EURO 2020 FAVS

France and Belgium are leading contenders for the Euro 2020 title, but Portugal and England also stand decent chances if things go their way.

France are the defending champs of the FIFA World Cup and were the opponents Portugal had to fiercely overcome to win in 2016. The core of the squad is still available, talented and ready, hungry for even more titles. The option of experienced players and bond in the French side will only be hindered by complacency – which is starting to get obvious.

The Belgian side have been playing together for some time. The options and raw talent of the Belgian team with a hungry Roberto Martinez can take them all the way next year. Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne, Dries Mertens, Thibaut Courtois, Romelu Lukaku are some of the experienced legs. Their exploits in the last tournament and their development as a team is a pointer to how far they can go next year especially if their best legs are fit.

Cristiano Ronaldo is ten goals away from equaling Ali Daei international goals’ record with his tally of 99 goals in 164 games. Ronaldo has promised to break the record and next year would set the stage. The Portuguese setup is decent enough, and with superior mental strength as defending champs, they would be targeting the semis at least.

England would be hoping to really rise to the occasion this time with the quality and depth in the side. Euro 2016 was a big disappointment which was reversed at the World Cup last year. However, the Three Lions are yet to prove convincingly that they are not a fluke. The Euro 2020 is the perfect stage to unleash the fire power of the youthful side.
